An operator closes a work order on the shop floor terminal. Six hours later, someone in the office re-keys that completion into the ERP, guesses at the scrap quantity, and moves on. Nobody notices until month end, when cost variances look nothing like reality and the plant manager cannot tell you which jobs made money.
That is the problem most manufacturing IT leaders are actually solving when they go looking for an ERP integration consultant. The ERP is fine. It is just isolated. The MES does not feed it, CAD and PLM live in their own world, quoting happens in a spreadsheet a sales engineer built years ago, EDI runs through a translator nobody fully understands, and warehouse scanners write to a system that syncs nightly if at all. Every gap gets patched with a person, and people are the most expensive integration middleware ever invented.
How to Evaluate an ERP Integration Consultant for Manufacturing
The criteria here differ from generic ERP consulting. Ask about these specifically.
Discrete versus process manufacturing
A firm that has only done discrete assembly will struggle with recipes, yields, batch genealogy, and co-products. One that lives in food and chemicals may be thin on configured products, engineering change orders, and serialized assemblies. Ask which side their last five projects fell on.
Real shop floor and MES experience
Anyone can claim they integrate with MES. Ask what they connected, what protocol they used, and what happened when the network dropped mid-shift. Ask how they handled labor and machine time collection, backflushing, and scrap reported against an operation rather than a whole job.
EDI and trading partner onboarding
If your customers send 850s and expect 856s back with the right ASN structure, integration is not purely technical. Ask who owns mapping, testing, and onboarding new trading partners after go-live, and whether they have done automotive or retail compliance work.
Middleware and iPaaS versus point-to-point
Point-to-point is faster and cheaper for two systems that will not change. It becomes unmanageable at five or six. A good consultant tells you when a platform is overkill and when it is the only sane option, rather than defaulting to whatever they resell.
Master data, BOMs, and routings
Most failed integrations are data problems wearing a technical costume. Ask how they handle duplicate part numbers, unit of measure conflicts, and who owns the item master when three systems each claim to be the source of truth. Then ask about the objects that break: multi-level BOMs, phantom assemblies, alternate routings, and engineering change effectivity dates.
Traceability, testing, and cutover
Lot and serial traceability has to survive the integration, not get reconstructed after a recall notice arrives. Ask how they test against a live production schedule without corrupting real inventory, and what cutover looks like for a plant that cannot stop shipping. Ask whether they build custom connectors when nothing off the shelf fits, and who supports them at your next ERP upgrade.

Its services cover ERP selection, implementation management, recovery for troubled projects, and optimization of systems already in place, plus process improvement and change management.
The industries it names include aerospace and defense, automotive, chemical, food and beverage, electronics, medical devices, and plastics, a spread across both discrete and process manufacturing. That matters if you are still deciding what to buy, or suspect the software is not actually the problem. The trade-off is real: an independent firm will run the process rigorously and hold your integrator accountable, but you still need someone to write the code, so many manufacturers pair a firm like this with a hands-on technical partner.
Best for: Manufacturers wanting independent guidance on selection, process design, or rescuing a project that went sideways.
3. Godlan: Infor CloudSuite Industrial and the Connected Shop Floor
Godlan is a manufacturing ERP specialist focused on Infor CloudSuite Industrial, formerly SyteLine, and describes itself as an Infor preferred services partner. Its offerings span enterprise software consulting, implementation, and long-term software management, aimed at manufacturing rather than general business software.
What makes Godlan interesting here is the adjacent product set: Prophecy IoT for shop floor data collection, CPQ for configure-price-quote, and Birst for analytics. That maps to three common gaps in a manufacturing stack, namely machine and operator data that never reaches the ERP, quoting that lives outside the system, and reporting that requires manual reconciliation. The firm also lists RPA among its services and names roughly a dozen verticals, from aerospace and defense to job shops and metal fabrication.
Best for: Infor CloudSuite Industrial users who want shop floor and IoT data connected to the ERP by a manufacturing-only team.
4. EstesGroup: Epicor Depth for Mid-Market Manufacturers
EstesGroup is an Epicor-focused consultancy offering implementations, re-implementations, migrations from competing ERP systems, upgrades, and rescue work on stalled projects. Concentrating on one product line means the team arrives already knowing where the standard configuration ends and where a manufacturer’s real process begins, which is the point at which most integration scope gets discovered.
That specialization is worth weighing against breadth. A single-platform firm cannot help you evaluate whether Epicor is still the right system, but it will move faster inside it, and rescue work on a stalled project is a distinct skill: reading someone else’s half-finished configuration, deciding what is salvageable, and sequencing the rest without restarting the program from zero.
Best for: Epicor shops wanting a specialist team for implementation, upgrade, or recovery work rather than a generalist ERP integrator.
5. WM Synergy: Multi-Platform Mid-Market Manufacturing ERP
WM Synergy consults on ERP selection, implementation, and optimization for manufacturing, construction, and distribution companies. Its platform coverage is broader than most mid-market specialists: Infor SyteLine and CloudSuite Industrial, Infor VISUAL, Infor XA for IBM iSeries, and Acumatica Cloud ERP.
The XA and VISUAL coverage stands out. Plenty of North American manufacturers still run those systems, and finding consultants who understand them and can plan a credible path forward is hard. 7. Protelo: NetSuite Implementation and Third-Party Integration
Protelo is a certified Oracle NetSuite implementation partner working with mid-market companies, and names manufacturing and distribution among the industries it has implemented for. Press on the customization approach. Protelo emphasizes upgrade-safe customization, the discipline that decides whether your next NetSuite release is a non-event or a three-week firefight. Manufacturers accumulate customizations around work orders, assembly builds, and costing, and the careless ones break.
Best for: Mid-market NetSuite manufacturers needing integrations and customizations that survive platform upgrades.
8. DCKAP: The Integration Layer Itself

Best for: Larger SAP manufacturers running multi-site or multi-country programs who want implementation, integration, and application management from one firm.
10. Hitachi Solutions: Microsoft-Focused Enterprise Delivery
Hitachi Solutions is a global consultancy that describes itself as entirely Microsoft focused, working across Dynamics 365 including supply chain management, field service, Power Platform, data and analytics, and cloud platform work. Manufacturing is one of its named industries.
The Power Platform and data capabilities are the relevant piece. Much practical ERP integration in a Microsoft environment now runs through Dataverse, Power Automate, Azure, and analytics layers rather than hand-built interfaces, and a firm spanning all of it can design the architecture instead of just the connector. Hitachi Solutions was named Microsoft’s 2025 Dynamics 365 Finance Partner of the Year.
Best for: Manufacturers standardizing on Microsoft who want Dynamics 365, Azure, and Power Platform delivered as one architecture.
Making the Choice Without Guessing
Shortlist on evidence, not category. Ask every finalist to walk you through one manufacturing integration they built, naming the systems, the data objects, and what went wrong. Vague answers are the most reliable disqualifier you have.
Then decide what kind of firm you need. If the ERP itself is the problem, you want a platform specialist. If the ERP is fine and everything around it is the problem, you want an integration and custom development firm. If you cannot tell which, an independent advisory engagement is cheaper than a wrong implementation.
Integration readiness checklist
Run this before you solicit proposals. It will sharpen your RFP and cut the discovery bill.
- List every system holding production, inventory, or order data, including the spreadsheets and Access databases people rely on daily.
- For each, note whether it has an API, a readable database, a flat file export, or nothing.
- Identify the system of record for the item master, BOMs, routings, customers, and pricing. Flag anything two systems both claim.
- Document every place a human re-keys data between systems, and how often.
- Pull twelve months of EDI activity and note which transaction sets are in scope.
- Confirm lot and serial traceability requirements, including anything driven by customer or regulatory audit.
- Establish how much production downtime your plant can tolerate at cutover. Write the number down.
- Name an internal owner for master data. Not a committee.
- Check your ERP version, support status, and next upgrade window, since that dictates how integrations get built.
Bring that document to your first vendor call. If your ERP is staying while the gap is everything around it, a firm that builds custom integration and middleware for manufacturing and distribution operations is usually faster than another platform migration.
